There’s something about the San Francisco 49ers and fifth-round draft picks.
49ers’ CB Deommodore Lenoir, a 2021 fifth-round (pick 172 overall) draft pick out of Oregon, is staying in the Bay to the tune of a five-year, $92 million contract extension. Lenoir, who plays both outside and in the slot, is having an incredible year, building upon an incredible training camp and a 2023 season where he established himself as one of the league’s top corners.
The 25 year-old cornerback has two interceptions, six pass breakups and a forced fumble this season, while allowing a 65.1 passer rating when targeted. Beyond that, Lenoir has 53 tackles and a fumble recovery for a touchdown on a blocked field goal against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 5.
Lenoir, the self-proclaimed Hyena, is in his fourth year in the league and was due to become a free agent after the season. In his career, Lenoir has 233 tackles and six interceptions.
And also, he paints (see below 5 Fun Facts).
The signing makes the 49ers signing CB Charvarius Ward, who is also set to become a free agent, to a long-term deal unlikely, meaning 2025 should see Lenoir as CB1 and rookie Renardo Green as CB2 for San Francisco.
