The San Francisco 49ers have a quarterback conundrum. Blaine Gabbert is the assumed starter, but he hasn’t exactly inspired confidence in the preseason. Colin Kaepernick did not play well – to say the least – in his preseason debut against the Green Bay Packers. Tonight’s start may be the most important of his career to prove that he should earn a spot on the 49ers for week 1 and beyond. Man, that’s weird to say. All eyes will be on Kaepernick tonight not only for his play, but also because he will continue to sit during the National Anthem.
But Kaepernick isn’t the only quarterback to watch tonight. Both the fans and the Niners will have their eye on rookie Jeff Driskel. Driskel is a sixth-round draft pick out of Louisiana Tech, though he started his college career at the University of Florida. He is 14 of 27 in the preseason thus far with no touchdowns and no interceptions. Yes, there has been talk of him starting the season as QB2, but it is more likely that Driskel begins 2016 on the practice squad.
Who is this Jeff Driskel? What makes him tick? After last week’s preseason game against the Packers, I had a chance to talk to Driskel in the locker room to try to get to know him better. You know what that means? It’s Five Fun Facts time! Watch to find out where he’s lived outside the United States, his current favorite television show, what he likes to do when he’s not playing football, and more.
Thanks for watching!
