  1. HERstory maker! On May 2, Cherie became the first woman trainer to EVER win the Kentucky Derby, doing it with 23-1 long shot Golden Tempo in her very first Derby appearance. Casual.
  2. Before becoming one of the biggest names in racing, Cherie was pre-med and planned to become a physical therapist. But after being told she had to take Organic Chemistry, she basically said “actually, I’m gonna go work at the racetrack instead,” which honestly feels relatable to anyone who’s ever seen an O-chem syllabus.
  3. DeVaux didn’t come into racing with some glamorous fast-track story, she started as a hot walker and even trained horses for rodeos and barrel racing. Years later, she’d go on to work under legendary trainer Chad Brown before launching her own stable in 2018.
  4. Cherie has talked about loving photography, cars, and even dreamed of traveling the world to learn different horse-training cultures. At one point, she even spent weeks working with horses in Iceland, and the fact that this somehow wasn’t filmed as a niche reality show is beyond us.
  5. After her Derby win, DeVaux admitted she was mostly relieved she didn’t accidentally swear during her emotional TV interview, which she joked would’ve been very on-brand for her. You just know she’s got that Fangirl energy in her!
