1. The Chiefs aren’t the only ones going to Disney World. The trucks are packed and MLB teams are headed down to Florida (and Arizona) THIS WEEK! Honestly, we could use a spring training vacation about now, might have to join them.
  2. Don’t let their team name fool you! You’d think the Tampa Bay Rays would train in Tampa during the spring. Well, that’s actually not the case. The Yankees hold spring training in Tampa while the Rays train over an hour away in Port Charlotte. #ironic
  3. When did Spring Training become a thing? Believe it or not, we don’t know for sure. But signs point to 1870 (!!!) being the year the Cincinnati Red Stockings and Chicago White Stockings held organized camps in New Orleans. Thankfully these teams have new names.
  4. Sharing is caring! Of the 30 MLB teams, 14 (!) of them share a spring training complex. That’s right, there are 7 facilities throughout Arizona and Florida that host two teams. But don’t worry, only one set of division rivals have to share (D-backs and Rockies, we’re looking at you).
  5. The future is here, and we’re not just talking about the prospects. Commish Manfred announced the “robo ump” will be making its Spring Training debut this year in a limited number of games. The goal is to improve the accuracy of ball and strike calls, but will it really work?

I created Fangirl Sports Network as a place for female sports fans to follow their favorite teams with content and coverage that speaks directly to females. It started with one and then eight and now 32 NFL Fangirls and 15 NBA Fangirls.
