  1. Growing up in rural Malawi, Temwa and her older sister Tabitha were initially discouraged from playing because soccer was considered a boys’ sport. Their response? Play anyway. The sisters who once had to fight just to get on the field are now leading Malawi through its greatest football run ever.
  2. She was the most prolific scorer in the world! Before coming to Kansas City, Temwa scored an absurd 51 goals across all competitions in 2023 while playing in China. Then she came to the NWSL and apparently decided the record book needed some editing too! 20 goals in her debut season, followed by back-to-back Golden Boots and MVP awards.

  3. Temwa and her older sister Tabitha went from growing up playing together in Malawi to becoming two of the biggest names in African football. And while they’re incredibly close, Temwa has said she actually likes playing for a different club because she’d rather get the chance to compete against her sister. Very “love you, see you on the pitch.”
  4. After bouncing from Malawi to Sweden to China and finally the U.S., Temwa recently committed to the Kansas City Current through 2029. When the deal was announced, she specifically said she now calls Kansas City home and credited the club, city, and her teammates for making it feel that way.
  5. She’s helping write the greatest chapter in Malawi football history. Temwa entered WAFCON with a country making its first-ever appearance at the tournament, and Malawi is now headed to its first FIFA Women’s World Cup! It’s the latest milestone in a national team career that began when she was just 18 and has already included captaining Malawi and winning both the Golden Boot and Golden Ball at the 2023 COSAFA Cup.
