Georgia native and Seattle’s rookie running back, Chris Carson, had cemented himself as the starting back after three weeks of solid performance.
However, he suffered a broken leg just below the knee and possibly a high ankle sprain in Sunday’s victory over the Colts which is devastating for both him and the Seahawks, and he is now on injured reserve and eligible to be re-activated December 3.
He has called himself a physical runner and says “I like to break tackles and get hard yards. I just like to make people miss and I’m not afraid of contact.” Even though he’ll be out for awhile, I wanted to get to know the rising star a little better with 5 Fun Facts.
1. Carson attended Butler Community College in Kansas before heading to the Big 12 where he racked up over 1,600 yards and 17 scores in just two years.
2. Carson missed part of his senior year at Oklahoma State due to a thumb injury. However, he still managed to finish the season as OSU’s second leading rusher with 559 yards and nine touchdowns on just 82 carries, earning him a spot on the 2016 All Big 12 honorable mention list. P.S. Carson also caught 13 passes for 128 yards and a receiving TD.
3. In his spare time he likes to play basketball and grew up idolizing LeBron James.
4. Carson was the second to the last RB off the board in the 2017 NFL draft, chosen by the Seahawks in the seventh round at pick #249. He told Tony Drovetto of Seahawks.com that when he received the call from GM John Schneider and head coach Pete Carroll on draft day, he actually started to cry because he “felt so blessed to be in this situation.”
5. He was nominated for the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week award in week two when he rushed for 93 yards on 20 carries and had one reception for seven yards in the Seahawks’ victory over San Fran.
Carson underwent surgery on his left ankle Tuesday but the sky’s the limit for this rookie phenom and I can’t wait to see him explode back onto the field. Get well soon Chris! Go Hawks!
