Talking Touchdowns: 5 Things to Watch with Unwatchable 49ers

*Please not this video was recorded when the 49ers were favored in Sunday’s matchup with the New York Giants.

Hellooo, my Faithful friends, and welcome to Talking Touchdowns! The 0-9 San Francisco 49ers are officially the walking wounded. Jaquiski Tartt, Cole Hikutini, and Garry Gilliam are the latest Niners to head to IR, while Trent Taylor, George Kittle, and Elijah Lee are out for Sunday. One more game until the bye. It can’t come soon enough.

Next up are the 1-7 New York Giants and potentially the Niners best chance at a win this season.

San Francisco 49ers vs. New York Giants

Let’s mix things up, because, again, they’re 0-9, with 5 Things to Keep Your Eye on Sunday:

  • #JimmyWatch – As Jimmy Garoppolo said, C.J. Beathard is one tough dude. Beathard was hit 16 times on Sunday and sacked five. He’s been sacked 14 times over the last three weeks. You know what that means? It means there’s not a snowball’s chance in hell that Jimmy G is going to see playing time this week…unless of course, he does. For all of your Jimmy Watch needs, make sure to follow my Instagram stories from the field on Sunday and my good friend Eric Branch on Twitter as his timeline will have the most entertaining Jimmy Watch tweets. You’re welcome.
  • That Niner defense – Even though the 49ers D will be without Solomon Thomas, Jimmie Ward, Jaquiski Tartt, Arik Armstead, and Elijah Lee, they do have Reuben Foster! He had 13 solo and 14 total tackles on Sunday. That’s impressive. DeForest Buckner has continued his solid season so hopefully they can bring pressure to Giants’ QB Eli Manning, a Manning who was sacked twice against the Rams, threw an interception and fumbled.
  • Speaking of Eli, since losing his star receivers Odell Beckham, Jr. and Brandon Marshall, the younger Manning has a 53.1 completion percentage and is averaging 160.7 passing yards a game. He got Sterling Shepard back on Sunday, but it didn’t help. He has a 63.2% completion rate on the season with 12 touchdowns and six interceptions. Not great.
  • You know what else isn’t great? The 49er offense. That being said, the New York defense gave up 473 yards of offense and 51 points to the Rams. The Rams are significantly better than that 49ers, but this is still good news. Granted, C.J.’s receivers are really going to have to catch balls that are thrown to them. You know who you are, Marquise Goodwin. And the shambles of the offensive line has to give Beathard some time to throw and open up holes for Carlos Hyde. Against the Giants, this is doable-ish.
  • The 5th thing to look out for – the 49ers are favorites for the first time all season. They may be one-point favorites but they’re favorites.

Game Prediction

This may be the only game they win all season, but I think the Niners get it. Go Niners!
