What’s up, Bolt Nation? Welcome to another edition of Talking Touchdowns! The Chargers have improved to 7-6 after defeating the Washington Redskins at StubHub arena, 30-13. Up next, the Chargers will battle for the AFC West at Arrowhead Stadium against the also 7-6 Kansas City Chiefs.

LA Chargers vs. Washington Redskins

Offense

In the past four games, the Chargers have outscored their opponents 131-53, out-gaining them by 731 yards! Philip Rivers continued the momentum with his explosive performance against the Washington Redskins where he led the Chargers to their fourth victory in a row. Before the half, Rivers had already racked up 256 yards and two touchdowns.

Rivers showed that he has three check-off options, finding Hunter Henry for an 8-yard touchdown and Tyrell Williams for a whopping 75-yard touchdown, while the unstoppable duo between he and Keenan Allen continues to thrive.

Rivers performance against the Redskins brought him to 9th all time in passing yards, surpassing Warren Moon. He finished the game with 319 passing yards and two touchdowns before Kellen Clemens made his appearance in the 4th quarter. The Chargers huge third quarter lead allowed for some of their starters to rest, something they will need going into one of the most important games of the season.

LA Chargers vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Chiefs’ quarterback Alex Smith led Kansas City to a 26-15 lead over the Raiders in the rivalry game last week. Smith completed 20 of 34 passes for 268 yards with no touchdowns and an interception.

The Chargers will have to look out for Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt who will be coming off one of his best games in months. Hunt had three catches for 22 yards, 25 carries for 116 yards and a touchdown in last weeks game against the Raiders.

Defense

The Chargers defense under Gus Bradley is on fire! Denzel Perryman shut down any attempts for Redskins rushing attack. Last week, Desmond King recorded his fourth sack of the season and had an incredible tackle on Samje Perine.

On the other hand, the Chiefs defense ranks 30th in the NFL, giving up an average of 382.2 yards per game. Bruce Irvin was the Chiefs biggest help on defense bringing in five tackles and sacking the QB three times. I have to say, it’s hard to give this Chiefs defense much credit for last weeks win over the Oakland Raiders, due to Derek Carr’s performance where he completed just 24 of 41 passes for 211 yards with one touchdown and he threw two interceptions. I have high hopes that Rivers can exploit the Chiefs’ secondary.

Game Prediction

The last time the Chargers faced the Chiefs, the Chiefs walked away with the W but the Chargers have been playing with fury and are on quite the roll. Also, taking into consideration the Chiefs have lost 6 of their last 8 games and last week’s victory was over a deflated Raiders, I’m going to predict that the Chargers will come out on top. Sorry Chiefs Fangirl but I think the Chargers got this one!
