No Luck with Injuries

With Antonio Brown and his helmet woes back with the Raiders, another NFL preseason story to keep an eye on is that of Andrew Luck.

The Indianapolis Colts’ QB1 has not practiced since May due to a calf strain. Now, unfortunately, there’s more. The four-time Pro Bowler is also nursing an issue with his left ankle, meaning he’s most likely out all of the preseason.

After missing 2017 with a shoulder injury, Luck threw for 4,539 yards and 39 touchdowns in 2018 for which he was named the AP’s NFL Comeback Player of the Year.

So, in short, the Colts would like him back September 8th to face the Los Angeles Chargers, and the chances of that happening are high.

Roc Nation and the NFL

Jay Z’s Roc Nation and the NFL are teaming up. Together, the two entities are looking to increase the league’s efforts around social justice and make the live game experience even more of, well, an experience.

Not only will Roc Nation be integral in picking artists for the Super Bowl, as well as other major NFL events, but it will also work with the NFL on community efforts combining music and football. The latter will go hand-in-hand with the league’s Inspire Change initiative, which will work to positively inspire change in communities around the country.

As Colin Kaepernick is still not signed to an NFL team, the partnership has suffered some backlash. It will be interesting to see how it manifests in terms of bettering communities in need. Hopefully, it will be a positive.

Fangirling Over Simone Biles

Olympic gold medalist, and all-around legend, Simone Biles won her sixth U.S. Gymnastics championship this week. She sparkles, she shines, she works hard, she kicks ass. Basically, she’s what Fangirl dreams are made of.

During her winning performance, she did a triple-double on the floor and a double-double dismount on the balance beam. Neither had ever been done successfully before in women’s gymnastics. Again, legend. Congratulations Simone!

More Injury News (UGH)

Los Angeles Lakers’ center DeMarcus Cousins has a torn ACL in his left knee and is out indefinitely. This is bad news for the Lakers, who signed Cousins to a one-year, $3.5 million contract this offseason. Cousins has had terrible luck with injuries over the last year and a half, suffering a ruptured Achilles in January 2018 and a quad injury during the 2019 playoffs.

Over in the world of tennis, Serena Williams has withdrawn from the Western & Southern open with the same back injury that kept her from finishing the Rogers Cup. With the US Open set to begin on August 26, Williams is hoping to be recovered and ready to win her seventh Open. Yes, she’s won it six times. That. Is. Amazing.

Yasiel Puig

And on the third day of his three-game suspension, Cleveland Indians’ outfielder Yasiel Puig had something to celebrate.

Puig became a U.S. citizen on Wednesday, posting a photo to twitter holding an American flag and the caption was: “Thank you God for this great opportunity to be an American citizen.”
