1. Top of her game. Dawn has been South Carolina’s women’s basketball coach since 2018, where she has won seven SEC reg season championships, seven SEC tournament titles, two NCAA National Championships and two Naismith Coach of the Year titles. She is the first person to win the Naismith award as a player and a coach.
  2. Bleeding green. Dawn is a huge fan of her hometown Philadelphia Eagles. On Super Bowl Sunday this year, she sported a Randall Cunningham Eagles jersey while coaching the Gamecocks game against LSU.
  3. Champ’s world. Dawn has a Havanese dog named Champ who frequently steals the show. Champ joins his mom at press conferences, during practices and even has his own Twitter account!
  4. Big dreams. Dawn dreamed of being the next Sixers point guard as a little girl. She would go on to play in the ABL from 1996-98 and played in the WNBA for the Charlotte Sting (1999-2005) and Houston Comets (2005-06).
  5. Sharing the prize. After winning her first NCAA Title in 2017, Dawn sent a piece of the net to every Black woman coach in Division I. She also sent replica trophies to every player she coached from Temple and South Carolina and her UVA teammates with a plaque that read “Because of you.”

I created Fangirl Sports Network as a place for female sports fans to follow their favorite teams with content and coverage that speaks directly to females. It started with one and then eight and now 32 NFL Fangirls and 15 NBA Fangirls.
