Creed Humphrey

It pays to be a stellar center in the NFL, literally.

Creed Humphrey and the Kansas City Chiefs agreed to a four-year contract extension on Thursday. The deal is reportedly worth $72 million with $50 million in guarantees. Patrick Mahomes rejoices.

Humphrey was Kansas City’s second-round pick in 2021. Last season, he was second – behind teammate Joe Thuney – in the NFL in pass block win rate among interior offensive lineman. Like I said, Patrick Mahomes rejoices.

Seattle Mariners

In the midst of quite the slide and watching their playoff hopes slipping away, the Seattle Mariners fired manager Scott Servais. They also fired hitting coach Jarret DeHart with the team ranking last in the league in batting average.

The Mariners had a 10-game AL West lead on June 18 and have gone 20-33 since, including being swept by the Dodgers earlier this week. They are now five games behind the Houston Astros in the division and are way back in the Wild Card race.

With 34 games to go, Dan Wilson will step in as the manager to try to get Seattle back to the playoffs.

NFL Updates

  • Across the street from the Mariners, the Seattle Seahawks made a trade, sending LB Darrell Taylor to the Chicago Bears in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round pick. Since 2021, Taylor has registered 21.5 sacks in 49 games. The Bears have been on the hunt (pun intended) for a pass rusher Montez Sweat, and it looks like they found their guy.
  • Arizona Cardinals WR Zay Jones has been suspended five games for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy.
  • Los Angeles Rams OL Alaric Jackson has been suspended two games for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

Douglas Coleman III

Thursday night’s preseason game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Chicago Bears had a scary moment when Bears’ DB Douglas Coleman III was injured making a tackle and was carted off the field.

Chicago coach Matt Eberflus said Thursday night that Coleman had movement in his limbs, and then reported Friday morning that Coleman was on his way back to Chicago. Great news.
