With the third pick in the NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers took Stanford defensive lineman Solomon Thomas. Thomas is clearly familiar with the Bay Area and with his new home stadium.
“…We played in the Pac-12 Championship here and also the Foster Farms Bowl when I was a freshman at Stanford,” said Thomas. “So, I’ve been here a couple times. It’s an amazing building. I’m happy to be back here.”
The 49ers defense left a lot to be desired last season, and that’s putting it nicely. With that in mind, San Francisco has to be looking at Thomas and their other first-round pick Reuben Thomas to be making an immediate impact.
“You know, coming in you have to earn your stripes,” said Thomas. “I can’t come in here and say I’m just going to start right away. I have to work with the guys, get to know my teammates, become a great teammate, become a great practice player and just earn my stripes as I go on and keep working and working until I can say I can get there.”
The new teammates of Foster and Thomas already feel like fast friends.
“…[W]e haven’t met before, but I’ve spent about 10 minutes with him and I already feel like he’s my brother.”
I had a chance to talk to Thomas after his and Foster’s introductory press conference and get to know him a little better with 5 Fun Facts! Watch the above video to find out:
