Chargers Secure W in Giants Territory

Los Angeles Chargers vs. New York Giants

Both the Chargers and the Giants showed up hungry to take their first win of the season, with both teams coming into Sundays game with records of 0-4. Although I was peeking through my fingers, like a horror movie, for a majority of the game… I finally got to see my Chargers take the W, 27 – 22.

Offense:

Both teams have struggled to gain passing yards and establish run game and I won’t lie, neither offense had a phenomenal game today. For starters, New York was down 3 receivers. Sterling Shepard was in a cast on the sidelines and within the first half the Giants, Brandon Marshall, was carted off the field. Later, Odell Beckham Jr. was also carted off the field leaving Eli Manning looking doubtful with little coverage.

The Giants gained their first two points on a botched snap and they went on to get a 23-yard touchdown to end the first quarter. In the second quarter, Rivers found Gordon for a 6-yard touchdown and secured the lead going into the break. It looked like the Chargers would secure the lead in the third until Rivers threw an interception, which resulted in another Giants touchdown.

Chargers offense picked up the pace when Rivers dumped the ball off to Gordon. Then he delivered the ball to Hunter Henry and Henry scored his second touchdown catch of the season. But it wasn’t long until Beckham scored a touchdown putting the Giants back in the lead at 22-17.

When Odell Beckham Jr. left the game with an injury, this is when things would turn around again. An unconfident Eli Manning, missing three of his receivers, then fumbled the ball and the Chargers would recover it, resulting in another touchdown by Gordon. The Giants then failed attempt to come back resulted in an interception by Tre Boston and they threw the hat.

Defense:

In last weeks matchup, Philadelphia wore our defense out with the run. You can bet the Giants studied that film and planned to do the same and they put up good efforts; However, this sack-attacking Chargers defensive line just could not be stopped.

The late edge pass-rushing duo of Bosa and Ingram was unbelievable today. Joey Bosa had 2 sacks and 4 assists and Melvin Ingram had 2 sacks, 2 assists, and a forced fumble. Despite the Giants O refusing to give up any sacks last game, the Chargers dominating defense had a total of 5 sacks. I give this game to our D line for that incredible forced fumble by Ingram that was a huge step in sealing the deal on the Chargers victory over the Giants.

Up Next:

Although these teams are similar in a plethora of ways, the Chargers showed that they could perform stronger. I hope this gives Charger fans the little pick-me-up they need going into next weeks game against the Oakland Raiders. The Chargers and the Raiders have a rivalry that has been brewing for many years. And, I think it could be fun to start a little Fan Girl rivalry of our own, Raiders Fangirl Ivana…
