Gone Camping: 49ers Finish Second Annual Football, STEAM Academy Program

The San Francisco 49ers are off until training camp at the end of July, but that doesn’t mean Levi’s Stadium hasn’t seen some football action.

Last week, the Niners finished the second annual Football and STEAM Academy summer camp. The camp was held over a two-week period, and it was free for about 200 Bay Area kids from second to seventh grade.

The program taught participants about both football and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) and ways to bring the two together. The 49ers have long been committed to using football as a way to educate children in these areas.

“It’s great to have our Football and STEAM Academy summer camp program back for year two and see it building off of last year’s success,” said Jared Muela, 49ers director of youth football and fan engagement. “In just three days, you see a shift in these kids’ understanding of how sports and the concepts of STEAM align, and how it can help open their eyes to a world with limitless learning opportunities.”
