Hello Faithful. Although it seems like it’s always bad news, the San Francisco 49ers have had a little bit of good news of late. Yes, they lost last week and yes, they’re 1-10, but they are starting to look a little better in spots.
On this week’s Talking Touchdowns game preview, I look at the good news and bad news regarding the team and the upcoming matchup with the Chicago Bears, including:
- Colin Kaepernick – The good news is the embattled quarterback had an awesome day on Sunday with 409 yards of total offense by himself (113 yards rushing, 296 yards passing, and three touchdowns). He continues to get more and more comfortable in Chip Kelly’s offense and has a quarterback rating of 96 in his past four starts. The bad news is this solid play is most likely an audition for his next team.
- The 49ers played really well on Sunday and competed. They didn’t give up. They didn’t fold. All good news, but the bad news is they had two costly turnovers and multiple penalties which stalled the offense and prevented the victory.
- The 49ers are off to Chicago to take on a really bad 2-9 Bears team who is without starting quarterback Jay Cutler and star receiver Alshon Jeffrey. This should be good news, but the Niners are struggling mightily with the pass rush and in the secondary. Aaron Lynch’s absence has really taken its toll on an already depleted defense and the Niner secondary is just a mess, getting burned every which way.
- All good news – I share some fun fan superstitions. Thank you @TheLakeShOwKinG, @LexusM, @JonnyWhy49, and @oldmanengel for sharing their favorites! If I didn’t get to yours, tune in next week and send me more @49ersfangirl.
- And, of course, my game prediction. You’ll have to watch to see if it’s good news or bad news.
