The San Francisco 49ers continue to focus on the trenches with the selection of DL Alfred Collins in the second round (43) of the 2025 NFL Draft. The 6’5″, 332 lb. lineman is known as a disruptor in the run defense, and that’s an area in which the 49ers need massive improvement.

Collins said his pre-Draft interaction with San Francisco was a getting to know you situation.

“[I]t was just getting to know me, getting to know me as a person, Cause I mean, they see the play on the field,” Collins told the Bay Area media over a Zoom call. “They just wanted to see who they’re bringing in the locker room, so that’s really it.”

And what does Collins bring to the locker room, even as a rookie?

“[A] competitive mindset said I’m ready to learn from those that have done it before me,” Collins said. “I’m ready to come in and do whatever I can to win games and I’m going to be a good teammate to my teammates.”

Collins’ 2024 season saw him record 55 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, one sack, seven pass breakups and one forced fumble. He also started 16 of the Longhorns’ games. The best ability is availability.
