Jet-Setting 49ers Return Home for a Win? (NFL Week 14)

By December 8, 2016 No Comments

It’s hard being a fan. It’s not chopping down trees hard, but it’s hard. It’s hard to care so much and be able to do so little. No matter what I wear or how hard I cheer or what I eat for breakfast on game day, my actions don’t affect the product on the field. Do you know what’s really hard? Feeling like you care more than the players.

After a relatively good showing against the Miami Dolphins, the San Francisco 49ers undid all their positives and looked absolutely awful against the now 3-9 Chicago Bears. I know how hard our guys work, but on Sunday, they all looked like they just want to go home for the season. Unfortunately for them, and us, there are four games left. Next up are the 3-9 New York Jets, who are bad, but not as bad as our team.

In this week’s Talking Touchdowns game preview, I take a look at the matchup, including:

  • The 49er offense will be facing the league’s 22nd ranked pass defense in the Jets. Colin Kaepernick threw for four yards, which caused a fourth quarter benching so we saw our good buddy Blaine Gabbert again. He threw for 35 yards and was sacked in the end zone for a safety, so that was great. Without the snow, I sincerely hope Kap can get back on track with the passing game. He’ll still need help from his receivers, but there’s nowhere to go but up.
  • Carlos Hyde rushed for 92 yards the other day. He will see the 15th ranked run defense in the league, so he should be able to make some things happen.
  • Bryce Petty will be taking over at quarterback for the Jet’s 26th ranked pass offense. He started the second half Monday night, going 5 for 12 for 81 yards and two interceptions. Yes, the Ryan Fitzgerald experiment is over in New York. Maybe, just maybe, the 49ers secondary disaster can right its ship and defend. Though they will have to contend with Brandon Marshall and he’s always a threat and we’re the Niners.
  • Also, the Jets are ranked ninth in the league in rushing, so you know what that means. Career day for Matt Forte!
  • You’ll have to watch for my game prediction.

I’m sorry to be so negative but this team has just brought me down. On the plus side, the #2 draft pick is pretty much a lock. Go Niners.
