There is something so magical about this time of year. As one chapter closes, another starts. Once the Christmas season is over, it’s time for the New Year. With a new year comes a time to put the past in the past and start fresh. So I am here today to talk about New Year’s resolutions and how to stick with them. This resolution is all about how to eat and feel healthy. This isn’t about dieting, this isn’t about spending a lot of money on gym memberships and trainers. This is a time to refocus and remember what and who is important. And that is your health and you. I know we are all exhausted. I know life comes at us fast and we barely have time to shower some days, but when we put our health and our well-being first you will see how much time and energy you really do have to take on the day. So let’s start small and build from there.. So here are my tips and tricks I do. Commit to one for January, then another for February and so on and so on.

First Tip: I do not diet. I do not count calories and I do not ever step on a scale. Why would I torture myself that way?? I don’t want you to torture yourself either. It’s all about changing your mindset. It’s a lifestyle choice to want and feel your best. I read labels and I try not to eat anything I can’t pronounce or that is processed. Because I know your time is valuable, here is another way of thinking about it. If you can throw it in the grass and it sit there for a few days not even starting to decompose DO NOT EAT IT. If you can throw it in the grass and that night or day it would start to decompose, then eat it! Nothing processed, no sugar, no gluten, no soy and no dairy! Those are KEY. Start small and cut those items out of what you eat.

Second Tip: Start the day with a green smoothie, In fact, before every meal start with something green. It helps with digestion, which will help with bloating and weight loss. Greens have fiber, fiber pushes the food through your body! My green smoothie recipe is 1 apple, 3 stocks of celery, spinach, 1 banana, romaine lettuce, cilantro and water. You can play around with yours just make sure it has a green!

Third Tip: Food pairing: Have you ever noticed after a meal you feel sleepy and bloated?? That’s because your body is in heavy work mode trying to break down what you just ate. So adopt this food pairing rule: no more pairing carbs, meat and veggies. From now on adopt the meat and veggies only OR carbs and veggies only! You can still eat your carbs, just don’t mix it with your protein. Your body can’t break it down which causes bloating and weight gain.

Fourth Tip: I do not have a gym membership, but I do make sure I get my body moving at least 20 minutes per day. Even if I break it up into 5 mins here and 5 mins there. Get your body moving! I bought a mini trampoline I can do while at home and watching TV! You can too. I got mine at Walmart. Get moving and get jumping and start putting these ideas into practice.

These tips and tricks will help you stick to your new year’s resolution and I know it because I went through it. I was heavier than I ever had been before. I couldn’t even recognize myself. I was eating whatever I wanted, not taking care of myself and barely working out. I was so unhappy and always tired. I decided to challenge myself and do something I had never done before. I set a goal. I was going to compete for Miss California. I had 4 weeks to lose the weight and get healthy. I adopted all of these new mindsets, I lost the weight and have kept it off and I won Miss California. You can do it. It doesn’t have to be overwhelming. You have to want to feel and be good. I carried around a lunch all day with me with healthy unprocessed items. You can too! And remember if you stray a day, don’t beat yourself up. It’s OK. Get back at it the next meal. Happy New Year and Happy 2018 to the best version of you!

So, let’s review with how to start small so you can look and feel your best:

1. Change your thinking about food. You CAN have it, but you CHOOSE to feel good.

2. If it can’t decompose naturally, do NOT put it into your body.

3. NO processed food, no gluten, no sugar, NO SOY!! and no dairy

4. Start the day with a green smoothie and start every meal with something green.

5. Food pairing. Watch how you are pairing your food. Veggies and Meat, OK. Veggies and Carbs, OK. Meat and Carbs, NEVER (Your body can’t break it down, so you feel heavy and put on weight)

6. Get moving! At least 20 mins whether all together or broken up a day. It doesn’t have to be overwhelming.
