San Francisco 49ers vs. Indianapolis Colts

Hello Faithful and welcome to Talking Touchdowns! The San Francisco 49ers saw another heartbreaking loss on Sunday and they are now 0-5.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Washington Redskins

Next up are the Washington Redskins in the Nation’s Capital, and this is a game with storylines. Let’s take a look:

  • Kyle Shanahan was Washington’s offensive coordinator under his father and then head coach Mike Shanahan. When it comes to owner Dan Snyder, baby, now they got bad blood. So this should be fun.
  • Washington QB Kirk Cousins is the heir apparent QB1 for SF next year, so expect every look, glance, completion, and turnover to be analyzed.
  • So far this season, Cousins is 80 of 121 for 1,004 yards, seven touchdowns and one interception and a rating of 107.6. His team is 2-2. Compare that with 49ers’ QB Brian Hoyer who is 115 for 194 for 1,211 yards, four touchdowns, four interceptions and a rating of 75.8. Hoyer has played one more game than Cousins. His team is 0-5. Like I said, heir apparent.
  • Former Washington and current 49ers’ wide receiver Pierre Garçon has been Hoyer’s right-hand man. He had another strong showing the other day with 94 yards receiving, as did Marquise Goodwin with 116 yards receiving.
  • They will have their hands full with the Josh Norman-less Washington secondary. Even with Norman out, the Washington secondary boasts depth with Quinton Dunbar and Bashaud Breeland. I bet that’s nice. The 49ers’ secondary is a mess. Need I say more? No. I need not.
  • The normally solid 49ers’ front seven had a rough day Sunday, missing coverages and giving up 159 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns to the Colts. They are facing a Washington run game that has suffered from poor performance and poor blocking. Fingers crossed.
  • In addition, NaVorro Bowman, who led the team in tackles last week, was visibly upset about being taken out in certain passing situations, so I’m hoping we don’t have friction between the coaches and Bo. The last thing this team needs are distractions.
  • And how about that George Kittle? He shined bright on Sunday with a clutch touchdown to send the game overtime and had seven receptions for 83 yards. I am looking for positives, because this team is not as bad their record looks.
  • And let’s not forget that former 49ers’ head coach Jim Tomsula is Washington’s defensive line coach. And Vernon Davis is Washington’s tight end. Like I said, we got storylines.

Game Prediction

The 49ers are incredibly overmatched in this game; however, football can be a game of emotion and emotions are going to be running high on Sunday. You guys, let’s win this for the Shanny, because there would be no more fitting place than DC for him to get his first NFL win. Go Niners!
