Alright Ramily, so we didn’t get that fourth consecutive win but that’s okay. Just a little bump in the road and I’ve got a few notes that might be able to help us bounce back this week and get that needed win over the Detroit Lions.
- After an underwhelming performance on both sides of the ball against the surging Buffalo Bills, the Rams will need to recover quickly against a potent Detroit Lions team, led by superstar QB Matthew Stafford. Case Keenum has yet to find his rhythm this year and is now only completing just 57% of his passes, with 4 Touchdowns to 5 Interceptions. I know every one sees him as a “game manager,” but unless the Rams passing attack can improve, opposing defenses will keep this offense one-dimensional.
- The Rams defense allowed LeSean “Shady” McCoy to run for 150 yards on just 18 carries. That’s 8.3 yards per carry folks! But, the defense will be put to a different test this week, as they face a Stafford led Lions offense who has done nothing but throw touchdowns since he came into the NFL. Stafford’s two biggest targets this year have been newly acquired Marvin Jones and starting tailback Theo Riddick. Detroit ranks 23rd in the league in rushing, so the key to the game will be stopping the Lions’ receivers and tailbacks passing attack.
- If the Rams can limit points scored by the Lions, the offense faces a juicy matchup against a porous Detroit defense that’s allowed an average of over 100 yards rushing per game, given up 14 passing touchdowns already and rank towards the bottom of the NFL in points given up per game with 25. The Rams will need to get Gurley going early and often to control time of possession, so they can limit Stafford’s opportunities on offense.
