The Rams didn’t shine as bright as they did in Week 1. The Rams were up against a much different team in the Redskins and it showed in their performance. Here’s a few notes about the game.
Offense
In comparison to last week, Jared Goff did not look quite as polished as he did against the Colts. He had a critical fumble going into half time and with less than two minutes left in the game he threw a crucial interception which proved to end the game. Last week Goff was able to distribute the ball to multiple receivers but was not able to replicate the same performance against a more stout Redskins defense. Todd Gurley, however, had a very productive day and was able to get moving both on the ground and through the air this week. He rushed for 88 yards and one touchdown on 16 carries and had 3 receptions for 48 yards and another touchdown.
Defense
Aaron Donald played in his first game after a 44 day hold out. The defense was able to hold their own against a Redskins offense that had a much better performance this week. The Rams defense was able to force 3 fumbles and sacked Cousins twice.
Overall
The Rams still have a lot of work to do namely on the offensive side of the ball. The defense was able to keep the Rams competitive throughout the game but the Rams offense needs to vastly improve if they want any shot at a more successful season. Looking ahead to week 3 vs the 49ers, Jared Goff and company need to clearly take better care of the ball by limiting turnovers and having more consistent production on the offensive side of the ball.
