Well Ramily, I hope Santa was good to you all, because the Rams sure were not! The Los Angeles Rams LOST to the now 2-13 49ers in a terrible last quarter defeat ON CHRISTMAS EVE! Now, the Rams grace us with another holiday game when they host the Arizona Cardinals on New Year’s Day.

In this week’s Talking Touchdown’s game preview, I take a look at the matchup, including:

  • The defense. I mean really. The game vs the 49ers was basically a match up of terrible vs terrible and the lesser of the two was going to take the victory. Now, I thought the Rams’ defense would be able to hold the terrible Niner offense, but boy was I wrong. The defense had a pretty strong three periods but then gave up 15 points IN THE FOURTH QUARTER. This is not the first time the Rams defense has thrown away a game in the fourth.
  • The Arizona Cardinals are coming off a fourth quarter victory over the Seattle Seahawks where Carson Palmer threw went 16 of 27 for 276 yards. Palmer rallied the Cardinals to score 20 points in the fourth quarter. So a strong fourth quarter offense is up against our super weak fourth quarter defense. This should be interesting! If the Rams want a chance at victory here, the defense will have to stay consistent for four quarters, the FULL 60 MINUTES!
  • Now, on to the Rams’ offense. Jared Goff was not terrible. He went 28 of 38 for 253 yards with of course two interceptions. Goff has to get the ball out of his hands a little quicker. He doesn’t quite have the timing right for an NFL quarterback, and it’s causing confusion amongst his targets and easier turnovers for the opposing defense. This week Goff and his offense will be up against a third ranked Arizona defense. YIKES! I think the key to a victory this week will again be to score early! Getting some points on the board early on helps give Goff and this offense a boost of confidence!
