Talking Touchdowns: 49ers Will Need Tricks, Not Treats, To Beat the Red Hot Eagles

By October 26, 2017 No Comments

Hello and Happy Halloween Faithful! Are you guys still out there? 0-7 sucks, but as I keep saying, it is a rebuild and we’ve got to be patient. Next up are the 6-1 Philadelphia Eagles, so to mix it up on this Talking Touchdowns, I brought my good friend and Eagles fan, Jessica Franks, to talk about the game with me.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Let’s take a look:

  • C.J. Beathard’s first start was not awesome, as he had two fumbles and was sacked five times, but honestly, it’s hard to say what the Niners have in him with such a poor performance by the O-line.
  • The Eagles 30th ranked secondary would be a good place for Beathard to test his receivers and maybe try throwing to someone other than George Kittle on third down, since everyone seems to know that’s coming. Just a thought.
  • Speaking of quarterbacks, it turns out Carson Wentz is pretty flippin good. As Jess points out, Wentz was 17-of-25 for 268 yards with four touchdowns and an interception in Monday night’s win over the Redskins. Tight end Zach Ertz had five receptions for 89 yards and a touchdown. The chemistry between these two is a big reason the offense rankes 4th and Wentz is the current MVP favorite.
  • Against the Cowboys, the 49ers defense gave up an average of 6.2 yards on the ground and 13.9 yards in the air. So this should be super fun.
  • They are going to have to find a way to bring pressure to Wentz, which will not be easy when facing right tackle Lane Johnson. Hopefully Reuben Foster’s rib injury isn’t serious because he and DeForest Buckner are the best chances at rattling the Philly’s QB1. Also, Solomon Thomas cannot keep getting fooled on the read option (though if it makes you feel better Solomon, I got fooled once Sunday too).
  • The Eagles are red hot right now. And the game is in Philly. Sigh.
