Football! Football! We’ve Got Football!

Preseason football is underway and the excitement for the season is palpable. Do we need four preseason football games? No, but that’s another story for another time. Last night’s action saw the following winners and losers, but remember NFL fans, don’t fret. It’s preseason. It doesn’t count.

  • Dolphins 34 Falcons 27
  • Patriots 31 Lions 3
  • Packers 28 Texans 26
  • Panthers 23 Bears 13
  • Giants 31 Jets 22
  • Bills 24 Colts 16
  • Ravens 29 Jaguars 0
  • Browns 30 the Redskins 10
  • Titans 27 Eagles 10
  • Cardinals 17 Chargers 13
  • Seahawks 22 Broncos 14

Show Zeke the Money

Dallas Cowboys’ running back Ezekiel Elliott, who still has two years left on his rookie contract, won’t play without a new deal. This could be a problem for Dak Prescott and the Cowboys offense. Elliott makes it significantly better.

Elliott has yet to report to Training Camp, which could be costly, as he’s subject to a $40,000/day fine for every day he misses. Ouch. Zeke finished last season with 304 rushes for 1434 yards and six touchdowns.

Instead of camp, Elliott has been spotted in Cabo. Who doesn’t enjoy a little vacay in Cabo when playing hooky from work? He’s apparently having a hot girl summer.

Injury Bug Hits the 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers have been dealing with a number of injuries, especially on defense, and this week, it got worse.

Rookie defensive lineman and #2 overall draft pick Nick Bosa, suffered what general manager John Lynch called a “significant” ankle sprain on Wednesday, and will miss the rest of the preseason. Bosa, who also missed most of the offseason program with a hamstring injury, had looked great in camp, so that’s the good news.

Running back Jerick McKinnon came off the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list this week, but soreness in his rehabbed right knee requires a platelet rich plasma injection. He will be out the next two weeks and won’t play in the preseason. Defensive lineman Dee Ford also had a PRP injection in his knee and is out two weeks. Sigh.

Aside from McKinnon and Bosa, other 49ers who are out for the preseason, but who SF is hopeful will be ready for week one, are:

CB Jason Verrett (ankle)

C Weston Richburg (knee)

CB K’Waun Williams (knee)

Is this Heaven? No, it’s Iowa.

It’s not just for Kevin Costner anymore.

The New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox will play at the Field of Dreams – yes, that Field of Dreams – on August 13, 2020. A temporary 8,000 seat stadium is being built where the movie was filmed, and construction begins next week.

Baseball, apple pie, and classic movies. Does anything say summer more than that?

NCAA’s “Rich Paul Rule”

The NCAA has a new rule and Twitter doesn’t like it. Neither does LeBron James.

The rule states that agents looking to represent draft-eligible NBA prospects must have a bachelor’s degree to represent student-athletes. Rich Paul, the founder of Klutch Sports, does not. Paul represents James, Anthony Davis, John Wall, and other NBA stars.

James was not happy about the rule’s potential effect on Paul’s ability to do his job, so the King took to Twitter to talk about it. It’s not all Taco Tuesday in the James household.
