Tua Tagovailoa

Tua Tagovailoa is staying in Miami for a while. As reported by NFL Media, the No. 5 pick in the 2020 NFL draft and the Dolphins have agreed to a four-year, $212.4 million extension, including $167.1 million guaranteed.

Tagovailoa was selected to the 2023 Pro Bowl, after throwing 4,624 yards and 29 touchdown passes last season. Therein lies the answer to the question of whether or not the Dolphins are committed to Tua. They put a ring on it, so to speak.

The Olympics

The Paris 2024 Summer Olympics are underway, with the Opening Ceremonies taking place on Friday and the games going until August 11. Paris is hosting the summer games for the third time, with the most recent being 100 years ago in 1924.

206 total countries will compete in 329 medal events across 32 different sports, with Breaking (break dancing) making its debut. NGL, I’m pretty excited about that one. This marks the first-ever Games that will have an equal number of male and female athletes among the well over 10,000 that are participating. We love that.

Olympic Stadium will be the State de France in Saint-Denis, which has a capacity of 80,000. That being said, competitions will take place in 17 cities across France and Tahiti.

Let the games begin!

We’ve Got MLB Moves

The MLB trade deadline is Tuesday, and the moves are already heating up.

  • The Philadelphia Phillies have acquired OF Austin Hayes from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for RHP Seranthony Dominquez and OF Cristian Pache.
  • The Seattle Mariners get OF Randy Arozarena (boo, I wanted him for the Dodgers) from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for two minor leaguers and a player to be named later.
  • After the Los Angeles Dodgers designated LHP James Paxton for assignment earlier this week, the Boston Red Sox have acquired him for minor league IF Moises Bolivar on Friday.
  • Expect many more moves in the coming days!

Russell Wilson

Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson has been a limited participant in Pittsburgh’s training camp practice for the last two days, due to a calf injury he sustained during a conditioning test on Wednesday.

So, you know what this means, right? Justin Fields is getting first-team reps. It doesn’t sound like the Steelers are super concerned with Wilson’s injury, but it does give Fields an opportunity to show his new team that he’s QB1 material, when he’s not playing for the Bears.

It’s July, so this could all be much ado about nothing, but stay tuned, nonetheless.
