The NFL Does Friday Night Lights

The Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers will meet for Friday Night Football, as the two NFC teams play in São Paulo, Brazil. It will be the first NFL game in South America, but it will technically be an Eagles home game. The Eagles players haven’t been thrilled, but the show must go on.

The Packers, who lost in the NFC divisional round last season, have a new defensive coordinator. The Eagles, who had an epic collapse late in the season and lost in the wild-card round, have a new offensive coordinator and a new defensive coordinator, while both teams are sporting new running backs. The Eagles are slightly favored, but I like the Packers for this one.

The game is at 8:15 pm ET/5:15 pm PT on Peacock.

Jalen Ramsey and the Dolphins

Nobody puts Jalen in the corner, except the Miami Dolphins and he likes it that way.

The Dolphins and CB Jalen Ramsey have agreed to a three-year extension that ESPN is reporting is $24.1 million per year. It will make Ramsey the league’s highest-paid cornerback.

Ramsey has been dealing with a hamstring injury the last several weeks, making his availability for Sunday’s opener with the Jaguars in doubt, especially since the Dolphins have a quick-Thursday Night Football-turnaround in Week 2.

Pat Freiermuth and the Steelers

While their expected QB1 – Russell Wilson – is dealing with a calf issue, the Pittsburgh Steelers secured one of their offensive weapons for the next four years. Pittsburgh and tight end Pat Freiermuth agreed to a four-year, $48.4 million contract. Who will be throwing to him the next four years? Who knows, but that’s another story.

The tight end dealt with injuries last season but had nine receptions for 120 yards. His 2021 rookie season saw the most productivity with 60 receptions and seven touchdowns.
