What’s up, Bolt gang?! Welcome to Talking Touchdowns! The Chargers are coming off their second victory in a row and are headed back home to Los Angeles. They will face the Denver Broncos, who are coming off a devastating loss to the New York Giants.

LA Chargers vs. Denver Broncos

Offense

  • Rivers has stopped the gambling ladies and gents! In the game against the Raiders, we saw him throw a lot of underneath passes and he did well against the blitz. They were able to create play action while still going for occasional deep passes. Going forward, Philip Rivers will have to be really good at the line of scrimmage and go after Denver’s linebackers.
  • Melvin Gordon has become a great contender for Rivers in the passing game, having nine catches in last week’s game, while still putting up the run game. He ran for 83 yards and scored two touchdowns in the game against the Raiders.
  • In the past, the Chargers were a team that had a hard time finishing. Now, we see them finishing the game and having slower starts. The Chargers have been outscored 50–6 in the first quarter this season. The creativity of the offense needs to start early on. If they can build the lead, they can give the ball to Gordon and let him win the game.
  • There’s no doubt the Broncos struggled in the matchup against the Giants, a team who has had seven changes in their starting offense and defense due to injuries. But you can never underestimate the pride of an NFL player, and the Giants played with pride, Denver didn’t.
  • Siemian, being sacked three times, had a rough night against the Giants and the O-line has struggled to establish any run game. They had only 46 running yards in the game against the Giants.

Defense

  • If you like pass rushers, this is your game! Between Bosa, Ingram, Miller and Barrett, there are four great edge pass rushers that could really test the opposing offensive tackles. This could really alter the offensive game plan and might force the QBs to go to a shorter passing game with three to five step drops.
  • As good as Denver is on defense – having the best run defense in the NFL, which didn’t play well last week, but their linebackers step up and fill holes fast – Rivers just might be able to exploit them with Gordon, attacking them over the linebackers and underneath the safety.

The Broncos will probably be doing a lot of soul searching this week, while the Chargers are gaining pep in their step after a second win in a row. With the confidence the Chargers have been playing with, I’m going to have to give this game to the  Bolts. Let’s go for three in a row!
