Hello Dub Nation! Today, we have a Warriors Fangirl History Class! Whether you are a long suffering fan like myself or new to Dub Nation, we’ve got you covered here at Fangirl Sports Network.
Here are a few things Warriors fans need to know:
Lesson 1: THE STRUGGLE WAS REAL.
Before Stephen A. Smith said the Warriors were ruining the game, before Steph Curry happened, and before the Dubs became NBA darlings, the Golden State Warriors were a frustrating franchise with a few bursts of winning with an otherwise mediocre history.
To give you an example of the struggle, if the Warriors continued to play the same game year after year with their current wins and losses, it would take almost four years to achieve a .500 record. Yes, four years! NBA fans have to respect what long suffering Dubs fans have gone through.
Lesson 2: HOW WARRIORS FANS BECAME DUB NATION.
The best thing to come out of the dark era of Warriors basketball was the inexplicable support of Dub Nation at every game. This is where the fans earned their reputation as the best fan base in the league. Despite blown draft picks and awful personnel actions (like trading Chris Webber), Dub Nation faithfully rallied behind the team for every single game.
Lesson 3: THE BRIGHT SPOTS.
The history of the franchise is too long to cover, but fans should know about Wilt Chamberlain, RUN TMC, Rick Barry and the late Nate Thurmond and Don Nelson. Look up these guys up at your leisure, because they were unstoppable.
Although the Warriors achieved their fourth title in 2015, Warriors’ fans waited 40 long years for it. Dub Nation has embraced an arrogance and it seems to rattle every other fan base to their core.
With such a terrible history, it’s pretty comical how hated Warriors fans have become. But keep in mind that because we’ve been conditioned to expect our team to underachieve, we almost don’t know what to do with this incredible success. We know our cockiness is exasperating to everyone else, but we’re just doing what fans do!
