- Eyes to talk about. Max has a condition called Heterochromia iridis which is the reason for his notoriously different colored eyes (left eye is brown, right eye is blue). He’s fully embraced what makes him unique, and so have his fans. During Game 7 of the World Series, a pair of Nats fans actually dressed up as Max’s eyes to the ballpark! #BigTime
- Talk about puppy love! Max and his wife Erica are the proud parents to four mixed-breed pups: Rocco, Zou, Rafi, and Bo. Aside from having some of the cutest names ever all four of these pups are actually rescues! But the love doesn’t stop there as the Scherzer’s often work with The Humane Rescue Alliance.
- Nothing short of immaculate. In June 2018, Max threw an Immaculate Inning: 9 pitches, 9 strikes, 3 outs. But that’s not even the best part! He’d already done it before, making him just the FIFTH pitcher to EVER (!!!) record multiple Immaculate Innings. #sheesh
- Everyone has that one thing they can’t live without. For Max, that’s scuba diving! He first went diving in the Great Barrier Reef back in 2011 and was blown away by the experience. He loves it so much that he actually has permission to scuba dive written into the contract he signed with the Nats in 2015!
- As intimidating as he may seem on the mound, Max has guilty pleasures just like us! It’s desserts. Max loves brownies, cheesecake, and chocolate so much that he tries to avoid eating dessert all together. He says if he has one, he’ll have 10 and wow we feel seen!
