Each year, the NBA awards the league’s best performing player for his team coming off the bench as a substitute (or sixth man), and I am here to cast my vote for the Golden State Warriors’ Andre Iguodala. He has gone on record stating he is not an award type of guy, but if anyone in the NBA deserves it — Andre Iguodala does. And, that is why it is the perfect time to learn more about Andre Iguodala with 5 Fun Facts!
Fact #1: Andre Iguodala was drafted number nine by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2004. Interestingly, teammate Shaun Livingston was selected by the Los Angeles Clippers at number four. Both veterans with over a decade of experience are still in the game and play significant roles for the Golden State Warriors.
Fact #2: Iguodala is an avid reader and he’s hosted multiple book drives. He has read all of Malcolm Gladwell’s books. However, he doesn’t read fiction. According to Iguodala, “I’ve got to read books that will help me in some way, that will improve me as a person.”
Fact #3: During the NBA lockout, Andre Iguodala interned at Merrill Lynch. He used the labor impasse to get some on-the-job training with financial planning.
Fact #4: Iguodala loves golf and is falling in love with a new sport. According to his business manager, Rudy Cline-Thomas, “…he wants to be a golf pro when his NBA career ends.” I kind of believe it too. Whenever he has an off day, it is known he tries to get at least 18 holes in.
Fact #5: When asked about the nickname “Iggy,” Andre Iguodala basically said it was OK for his teammates to use it, because they know him. Otherwise, he is “not a fan” of the nickname.
