Hip hip hooray! Hip hip hooray! The Cardinals won! The Cardinals won! The Arizona Cardinals are now 6-7 after taking down the Tennessee Titans last week. Now, the RedBirds travel east to our Nation’s Capital to take on the Washington Redskins in this edition of Talking Touchdowns.
Arizona Cardinals vs. Washington Redskins
Washington coming off a loss, where they were destroyed by the LA Chargers, are now 5-8 and will be looking for redemption and hoping to take it out on the Cardinals. Let’s preview this matchup.
Offense
The Cardinals offense struggled against the Titans last week. Sure, they pulled out the win, but it wasn’t because of the offense. Gabbert and Co. had zero touchdowns on the day and the offensive line allowed 8 sacks. Gabbert went 17 for 26 with 178 yards, zero touchdowns and zero interceptions. The bright spot that continues to keep shining on offense is wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald. Larry Legend passed Randy Moss for third place in the NFL’s all time-times receiving yards list.
For the Redskins, they took a beating last week against the LA Chargers, falling 13 to 30. QB Kirk Cousins went 15 for 27 with 151 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Hey, at least his team got a TD! But, their special teams followed it up with a missed field goal to miss out on the extra point. Something Cardinal fans know all too well. Washington’s offensive line only allowed one sack last week, but they never could get the run game going, only rushing for 65 yards. All eyes will be on their offensive line to see if they can create gaps and protect Captain Kirk.
Defense
On this side of the ball for Arizona they are dynamic at every position. But, let’s talk about Chandler Jones and the windmill. Jones now leads the NFL in sacks with 14. Keep the windmill coming because if we see the windmill, we know that a sack just happened. The Arizona defense held the Titans to just 65 yards on the ground making them one dimensional. If they can repeat this type of play against the RedSkins, I see the Cardinals flying away with the win.
For the Redskins defense I am going to highlight outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan. Since the Cardinals O-Line seems to be struggling to protect Gabbert, Kerrigan could have a field day. Kerrigan has 9 sacks on the year. He loves to attack QBs with a lot of pressure making him an excellent pass rusher.
Game Prediction
Cardinals always struggle when traveling east…Is it a bird thing?? Anyway, I am keeping with my latest tradition of reversing the curse. I am saying RedSkins 21-3.
