The Kansas City Chiefs kickoff their 2017 season this week against the Super Bowl Champions New England Patriots! I want to spotlight one of the most incredible players in Chiefs’ Kingdom, Travis Kelce. Kielce is entering his fourth year as a Chief, so let’s get to know him better with 5 fun facts about tight end Travis Kelce!
1. Kielce grew up in West Lake, OH. He attended Cleveland Heights High School where he was a three-sport athlete. He played football, baseball and wrestled. He was a three-year letter winner as quarterback and earned All-Lake Erie League honors after totaling 2,539 yards of total offense and a total of 31 touchdowns as a senior.
2. Travis accepted a scholarship from the University of Cincinnati where he played quarterback and tight end. In his senior year, he had 45 receptions for 722 yards and eight touchdowns. He was tied for second in the nation for touchdowns among tight ends.
3. Travis was a third round draft pick in 2013 by the Kansas City Chiefs. In his NFL career, thus far, he has had 224 receptions for 2,862 yards and 14 touchdowns. All I can say is WOW!!
4. Kelce won Offensive MVP honors at the 2017 Pro Bowl and appeared in the game for the second time in his career. I predict a third appearance in his future.
5. Football talent runs in the Kelce family. Travis’ older brother Jason Kelce plays center for the Philadelphia Eagles. I wish I had some of those Kelce athletic genes!
He is just one of the remarkable players on the Chiefs team. Look out for more of my 5 Fun Facts throughout the season!
