Chargers head into week 3 (0 – 2) with a tough back-to-back loss.
This was the first regular season game for the Dolphins due to unfortunate circumstances involving Hurricane Irma. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been affected and if you would like to join the NFL’s #HuddleForRelief, visit www.redcross.org/NFL or text REDCROSS to 90999.
The Los Angeles Chargers vs. the Miami Dolphins:
With the Dolphins missing week one of regular season, that meant this was the first game played in 24 days for Dolphins starters. There were some growing pains in the first half – Cutler getting used to a new team and a lack of rushing yards going into the first half. However, things took a turn in the second half.
Rookie kicker for the Chargers, Yunghoe Koo, missed a critical field goal with just seconds left in the game, leaving the Dolphins in the lead at 19 – 17.
Chargers Trifecta:
The Los Angeles Chargers took the lead going into the first half of the matchup against the Miami Dolphins. Kennan Allen, Branden Oliver, and Melvin Gordon had a triumphant trifecta for the touchdown. The Chargers went into halftime with a 10-3 lead.
Phillip Rivers had the Chargers in a good place, pushing the ball down the field more than the Dolphins. In the third, he threw a touchdown to Antonio Gates having them at 17-13 going into the third quarter. This was Antonio Gates’ 112th career touchdown, the most all-time by an NFL tight end and he reached 900 career receptions.
Miami Wakes Up:
Jay Cutler came back sharp in the second half. Overall, he completed 24 of 33 passes for 230 yards and a touchdown in his Miami debut. In the third, he was successful on a running touchdown to Kenny Stills.
Chargers defensive line did a good job at holding the line and with just a little over 6 minutes to go, Miami kicked a field goal and trailed just one point behind. The Dolphins held the Chargers on the subsequent drive and took a two-point lead with 1:05 remaining – Cody Parkey with the field goal.
Rivers did a good job to move the ball down the field. But with just second’s left in the game, the Chargers went for a 44-yard field goal, and it was no good.
Chargers Injuries:
Joe Barksdale walked off the field in the fourth quarter with a left leg injury – expected to return.
Up Next:
The Chargers will go into week 3 with their second home game of the season, against the Kansas City Chiefs. Let’s go Chargers!
