Talking Touchdowns: Can the Chargers Stun the Chiefs for First Win?

LA Chargers vs. Kansas City Chiefs

The Los Angeles Chargers will kick off week three with their second home game in a row this Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chargers are currently 0-2, while the Chiefs sit pretty at 2-0. Not to mention, the Chiefs defeated the Super Bowl champs in week 1.

Offense:

  • The Chargers offensive line struggled in last week’s matchup with the Dolphins, but Philip Rivers was making strategic calls to push the ball down the field in times of all out high pressure.
  • Antonio Gates reached 900 career receptions and scored his 112th career touchdown, breaking NFL history as the most all-time by a tight end.
  • Chiefs starting quarterback Alex Smith has 619 yards and five touchdowns this season. He has done a great job connecting with rookie running back Kareem Hunt. Hunt made NFL history in his debut by being the first running back since 1970 to gain more than 246 yards scrimmage in his first career game. In more recent news, Hunt had two touchdowns in the matchup against the Eagles, one of which he ran for 53 yards.

Defense:

  • We saw the Chargers defensive line putting the pressure on the Dolphins O in last weeks matchup, at times allowing nothing more than a field goal.
  • Linebacker Justin Houston said after the game against the Eagles that their defense wasn’t good enough. They are definitely missing Eric Berry.

Special Teams:

  • There’s no denying the Chargers are struggling here, with two games coming down to field goals that came up blocked or no good. You have to feel for rookie Yunghoe Koo, who will have a very tough week if he is sticking around for this weeks matchup.

Game Prediction:

My hopes are that the Chiefs have become a bit cocky and with back-to-back losses from the Chargers, I want to see them bolting on the field with fiery revenge. And, I just might want some bragging rights as this week’s winning Fangirl. Call it wishful thinking, Chiefs Fangirl Ashleigh, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the Chargers will break KC’s winning streak.
