Update: Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, McKinnon’s MRI revealed a muscle strain. This is good news, as it could have been much worse.

After getting hurt in today’s practice, San Francisco 49ers’ running back Jerick McKinnon will have an MRI on his right knee. Though he did leave practice early, McKinnon stayed and watched.

McKinnon looks to be an integral part of the 49ers’ offense, so hopefully the injury is not serious and the MRI is precautionary.

In better injury news, after being out the last several days with a hamstring injury, cornerback Richard Sherman was back at practice, participating in individual drills. Guard Joshua Garnett was also back in individual drills. He had missed the last two weeks with a knee injury.

Secondary Action

Safety Adrian Colbert intercepted a Jimmy Garoppolo pass intended for running back Raheem Mostert. Colbert got a little help from his friends, as it was defensive lineman Jeremiah Attaochu putting pressure on the QB that caused the errant throw.

With McKinnon out of practice early, Matt Breida out with a shoulder injury, and Joe Williams out due to the passing of his brother-in-law, Mostert and Jeremy McNichols got a lot of work in the backfield.

Rookie defensive back D.J. Reed picked off a C.J. Beathard pass that was intended for Victor Bolden, while cornerback Jimmie Ward had two pass breakups on Garoppolo passes. One of those was in the move-the-ball drills, one was in the end zone, and Garoppolo was looking to connect with Pierre Garçon on both of them.

Jimmy Garoppolo Sundays

Other than the Colbert interception, Garoppolo had a good day. He connected with wide receiver Trent Taylor for a touchdown during red zone drills and completed deep passes to Marquise Goodwin and Aldrick Robinson.

Community Corner

Today’s Community Corner was hosted by the quarterbacks and it honored all those in the Military. Players from numerous position groups, head coach Kyle Shanahan, and general manager John Lynch all stayed after practice to sign autographs.
