Well Ramily, all I can say is that I was pleasantly surprised by the Rams performance today!  The Rams closed Week 1 with a 46-9 victory over the Indianapolis Colts and they proved that they could possibly go above .500 this season.  Let’s do a quick recap on all the excitement that happened today.

Los Angeles Rams vs. Indianapolis Colts

Offense

The star of the show today was the Rams offense.  Last season, all I did was complain about the Rams offense and pray for something/anything to happen.  Jared Goff look liked a new and improved version of his less than impressive rookie self.  Last season Goff looked intimidated and scared, this game he looked poised and in control of the ball.  He passed for a career high 306 yards and had one touchdown.  Goff also had lots of options to throw to; Cooper Kupp, Sammy Watkins and Robert Woods all had multiple receptions with Kupp and Watkins having more than 50 receiving yards each.  Both Gerald Everett & Tyler Higbee had receptions and proved to be reliable receivers for Goff as well.  Todd Gurley had 19 carries for 40 yards, and added 5 catches for 56 yards, which is an improvement.  Overall, the offense looked light years ahead of where they finished last season, better than what I am used to seeing and makes me much more optimistic heading into week 2.

Defense

The Rams defense was red hot the entire game.  They had 4 sacks & 9 tackles for loss in today’s game.  The Rams defense also had not one but two impressive pick 6’s out of Trumaine Johnson & Lamarcus Joyner.  Like I said in my game preview, the Rams defense finished 9th in the league last season but today’s showing proved that they are only getting better.

Looking Ahead to Week 2

I won’t go too in depth into the Week 2 matchup vs the Washington Redskins as I will discuss most of that in my game preview.  However, I will say that Goff and the offense cannot get complacent and should look to build on their week 1 performance.  McVay kept Goff in for most of the game which I liked because this was only his 8th career start and he needs all the reps he can get..  Goff looked much more comfortable leading the team and I think this win  over the Colts will give him some much needed confidence as he heads into week 2.
