Baseball, Anyone?

Major League Baseball’s Opening Day is 34 days away – Hallelujah! – and Spring Training Games started on Friday. Pitchers and catchers reported a couple weeks ago, with position players not far behind. Cody Bellinger’s Chicago Cubs take on the Los Angeles Dodgers Sunday, and well, I am, in fact, unwell.

On Friday, it was the Texas Rangers taking on the Kansas City Royals and the Seattle Mariners taking on the San Diego Padres. This Fangirl can smell the hot dogs, peanuts and cracker jack. I can’t wait!

Jeff Bezos and the Washington Commanders

Per multiple reports, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has hired investment firm Allen & Company to look into the potential of purchasing the Washington Commanders. The firm was involved in both the sale of the Carolina Panthers and of the Denver Broncos.

Per Forbes, the Commanders are valued at $5.6 billion. Daniel Snyder, who has owned the team since 1999, and his wife Tanya announced in November that they were looking into possible transactions around the team.

My question is this – if Bezos buys the team, does it arrive within two hours with Prime?

Atlanta Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks are in the market for new coach since firing Nate McMillan earlier this week. Per ESPN, the apple of Atlanta’s eye is Quin Snyder and talks for a deal are in the works. The Hawks are 29-30 and in eighth place in the Eastern Conference.

Snyder coached the Utah Jazz for eight seasons, leading them to six consecutive Western Conference playoffs and three appearances in the semifinals. He resigned after the 2021-2022 season.

In the meantime, assistant Joe Prunty has taken over as the team’s interim coach.

El Trafico Postponed

The Rose Bowl was set to host a MLS rivalry on Saturday, but it has been postponed due to rain. Yes, weather in LA has its moments too.

LA Galaxy was opening its season against LAFC on Saturday for the El Tráfico rivalry match – an event that was supposed to be the main event for Major League Soccer’s broadcast deal with Apple TV, but rain happens, just not usually in Southern California.

The Portland Timbers vs. Sporting Kansas City was also postponed due to weather. They will play on Monday.

I created Fangirl Sports Network as a place for female sports fans to follow their favorite teams with content and coverage that speaks directly to females. It started with one and then eight and now 32 NFL Fangirls and 15 NBA Fangirls.
