The Friday 5: July 28th

Jalen Ramsey

After suffering an injury to his knee during Thursday’s training camp practice, Miami Dolphins’ CB Jalen Ramsey underwent surgery to repair his left meniscus on Friday. Head coach Mike McDaniel told reporters that there’s no exact timeline for his return, but the beginning of the season is not realistic.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Thursday that Ramsey could miss a few months.

Joe Burrow

Thursday was a tough injury day at NFL training camps, as Cincinnati Bengals’ QB Joe Burrow was carted off the field with an injury to his right calf. It is being reported as a calf strain, but it’s unclear as to how much time he’ll miss. It was a non-contact injury, so a strain is much better news than originally expected.

Head coach Zac Taylor said that Burrow will miss several weeks. The Bengals open the season on Sept. 10 in Cleveland against the Browns.

Devon Witherspoon

The Seattle Seahawks signed cornerback Devon Witherspoon to a four-year deal, meaning the fifth-overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft’s short holdout has ended. It is a fully guaranteed $31.86 million deal that includes a $20.17 million signing bonus.

Witherspoon missed the Seahawks’ first two training camp practices, but now all is right again, at least for Seattle’s secondary.

Trai Turner

After signing with the New Orleans Saints this past Tuesday, it looks as if guard Trai Turner is out for the season. Turner left Friday’s practice with what ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting is a season-ending torn quadricep. New Orleans head coach Dennis Allen said that the team was unsure as to the severity of the injury.

Turner was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in 2014 and spent time with the Washington Commanders, Los Angeles Chargers and Pittsburgh Steelers.

White Sox-Dodgers Trade

With the MLB trade deadline just a few days a week, it’s already been a busy week of players being moved. On Friday, per ESPN, the Los Angeles Dodgers bolstered their pitching staff – thank goodness – by trading with the Chicago White Sox for RHP Lance Lynn and RHP Joe Kelly. Lynn will join the rotation and Kelly will be back in the Dodgers’ bullpen, as he should be. I missed him, like a lot.

The White Sox receive OF Trayce Thompson and Double-A pitchers Nick Nastrini and Jordan Leasure. With the Dodgers bringing Kiké Hernandez back earlier in the week, there’s just one more favorite I’d like to see back in Dodger blue, and I think we all know who that is.
