World Series
The Fall Classic has been exciting, and the Houston Astros hold a 3-2 series lead over the Philadelphia Phillies, heading into Saturday night’s Game 6 in Houston.
Game 4 saw the Astros throw a combined no-hitter to beat the Phillies, 5-0, while Game 5 saw an epic Chas McCormick catch to hold the Astros’ win. It was the bottom of the ninth and the Phillies had runners at the corners with one out when J.T. Realmuto hit what looked like a home run or a triple. But McCormick said, “Not today. J.T. Not today,” probably.
Game 6 moves to Houston with the probable pitchers being Zach Wheeler for the Phillies and Framber Valdez for the Astros. The game begins at 8:03 pm ET/5:03 pm PT on FOX.
Kyrie Irving Suspended
Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving has been suspended at least five games by the team, after a refusal to apologize for posting a link to an antisemitic book and movie last week. The Nets said he is “unfit to be associated” with the team.
Thursday night, after he had already been suspended by the team, Irving apologized, saying on Instagram: “To All Jewish families and Communities that are hurt and affected from my post, I am deeply sorry to have caused you pain, and I apologize.”
Though Nets GM Sean Marks said the Nets did not consider releasing Irving, he did say Irving will need to go through counseling and will need to meet with Jewish leaders in Brooklyn before returning to play for the team.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Life isn’t getting easier for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who haven’t won a game in about a month and are currently 3-5. Yikes. When the Los Angeles Rams (3-4) come to town on Sunday, the Bucs will be without DB Antoine Winfield Jr., TE Cam Brate, LG Luke Goedeke and WR Russell Gage. More yikes.
On the plus side, they’re also getting some people back. DL Akiem Hicks, CB Carlton Davis III and CB Sean Murphy-Bunting were all full participants in practice this week.
Sunday’s game, which is kind of a must-win for both teams, kicks off at 4:25 pm ET/1:25 pm PT on CBS.
Michael Thomas
Bad news for the New Orleans Saints (and my fantasy team), as wide receiver Michael Thomas has been placed on injured reserve and will need surgery to repair a dislocated second toe. Saints head coach Dennis Allen does not expect that Thomas will be back this season.
Thomas injured his toe in Week 3 and has not played since then. Thomas had not played in nearly two years, after suffering a high ankle sprain Week 1 of the 2020 season. He had 16 receptions for 171 yards and three touchdowns in three games this season.
More NFL Injury News
- The Los Angeles Chargers will take on the Atlanta Falcons without WR Keenan Allen, WR Mike Williams and TE Donald Parham Jr.
- Zach Wilson and the New York Jets will have to face the Buffalo Bills without WR Corey Davis, who will be out for the second-straight week with a knee injury.
- The Cincinnati Bengals’ cornerback woes are plenty, as Chidobe Awuzie is out for the season with a torn ACL and Mike Hilton is out this week with a finger injury. The good news: they’re playing the Carolina Panthers.
