Word on the Street: 49ers Pick DE Kentavius Street in 4th Round

By April 28, 2018 No Comments

In the 4th round of the NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers drafted DE Kentavius Street out of N.C. State.

Street suffered a torn ACL in a private workout with the New York Giants in early April and had surgery to repair it on April 17. Calling Trent Baalke. Kidding, sort of.

“I just knew it was another challenge…and I knew I was going to be able to overcome it,” said Street.

Street recorded 3.5 sacks in 2017 with his highest-rated game coming in the East-West Shrine game, according to PFF’s Jeff Deeney. He had two sacks and eight pressures in that game.

He has been compared to the 49ers’ Ronald Blair. Street is unfamiliar with Blair and when he was told he played for the 49ers, he said, “OK.”

“As far as an athlete, I feel like I’m a well-balanced guy,” Street said. “I feel like I’m really stout against the run, violent hands…I just use my quickness, instincts…A lot of the things are just studying the offensive lineman that play. That plays a very vital role in how I play…The rest of it just comes natural when I go out there on game day.”

Street played opposite of Denver’s Bradley Chubb, who was picked 5th by the Broncos.

“Honestly, we all worked together…our linebacker corps, our secondary corps, we worked together as a whole. We were all just one finely-tuned machine,” Street said. “I think what made us work so well together was we built a bond of trust. No one was trying to do another man’s job. We all knew that when we went out there to play, everyone is going to go and execute…”

Street also once squatted 700 lbs., so he’s strong. Welcome to Santa Clara!
