As reported earlier today by Tracey Kaplan of the San Jose Mercury News, 49er Ahmad Brooks was charged with one count of misdemeanor sexual battery stemming from an incident at former 49er Ray McDonald’s home last December. McDonald has been indicted for rape. As of now, 49ers’ GM Trent Baalke said that Brooks is coming back to California from Denver and will not play in Saturday night’s preseason game.
This charge is very serious, and if he did in fact commit this crime, Brooks should be released from the team. Violence against women is never ok, and as a female football fan, I find this news very upsetting and disturbing. We are innocent until proven guilty so I do not want to convict Ahmad Brooks in this post, so we will see how this all plays out.
Update: 49ers have announced that they are not releasing Ahmad Brooks.
