5 Fun Facts About 49ers’ Robbie Gould

By March 15, 2017 No Comments

One of the hardest players to say goodbye to this offseason has been kicker Phil Dawson. Dawson, who was actually the subject of my very first 5 Fun Facts, signed with the Arizona Cardinals and it is the end of an era. But, this is not show friends; this is show business and the field goals still need to be kicked. Enter, Robbie Gould who will replace Uncle Phil in the red and gold. And Gould knows he has big cleats to fill.

“First, I have the most respect for Phil Dawson,” said Gould. He’s probably been the guy that I’ve looked up to since the beginning of my career because of how well, not only did he kick here, but also in Cleveland. The type of person that he is and the respect that I have for him, trying to watch film and you talk about getting better and the things that you do and the people you want to model yourself after, that’s a guy that I hope that I can come in and do my job to help these guys around me.”

Having spent 10 years in Chicago and one in New York, California will be a nice change of pace for the kicker.

“…I’m excited about the warm weather, said Gould. “I’m going to be completely honest. Kicking in Chicago and New York, getting into December and it’s 70 degrees is going to be a little different for me. But, at the end of the day, I think a lot of these guys can tell you, it’s about relationships. It’s about doing your job. It’s about fighting for one another. It’s about the culture in the locker room and I think if you talk to any single one of these guys, which we’ve probably passed each other 10 times, whether it’s by physical or by going to HR or whatever, I think there’s a common goal that each guy here has and it’s winning and that’s all we talk about.”

Winning is something that has not been synonymous with the 49ers for a few years now, so that’s good to hear.

I had the chance to go one-on-one with Gould for 5 Fun Facts. Watch the above video to learn:

  • His favorite sport that’s not football
  • The kinds of movies he watches
  • His favorite dinner
  • His least favorite post workout activity
  • And one thing he hates that he won’t have to do anymore.
