1. Trust the process. This phrase isn’t just the 76ers rally cry, it actually describes Joel’s career pretty well. From being drafted No. 3 in 2014, to missing his first two seasons due to injury, Joel is now an MVP favorite. Seems like things are finally “processing” in Philly!
  2. Joel and girlfriend Anne welcomed Baby Arthur, their first child, in September. Named after his late brother, Joel says his son is the reason he’s playing so well this year! He wants Arthur to grow up seeing his dad be the best so that he can be even better. How sweet is that?!
  3. Growing up in Cameroon, Joel’s sport was volleyball. He actually didn’t start playing basketball until he was 15! After attending Luc Mbah a Moute’s basketball camp at 16, he got an offer to play high school ball in the States and the rest…is a process!
  4. We’ve all used song lyrics for IG captions, but wait ‘til ya hear this. Joel is a HUGE Rick Ross fan. According to high school teammate D’Angelo Russell (yup he played with DLO), as Joel learned English, he would often quote Rick Ross…IN CONVERSATION!
  5. Inviting Joel to a socially distant tailgate? You might wanna make sure Shirley Temples are on the menu. Joel first discovered the mocktail back in college and it was love at first sip. Now, he considers them to be the BEST drink ever!

I created Fangirl Sports Network as a place for female sports fans to follow their favorite teams with content and coverage that speaks directly to females. It started with one and then eight and now 32 NFL Fangirls and 15 NBA Fangirls.
