1. 34 forever. Sylvia had her No. 34 jersey retired on Sunday by the Minnesota Lynx where she spent eight of her 15 WNBA seasons. During her time with the Lynx, she was a 2x WNBA champion, 2x WNBA Finals MVP and 2017 WNBA MVP.
2. Leading the way. Sylvia finished her WNBA career in 2022 on top of various statistical categories. She is the WNBA all-time career leader in rebounds (4,007), FG pct (59.9) and double doubles (193).
3. MVP of knitting. Sylvia finds peace in her favorite hobby: knitting. Last year, she knitted beanies for all her teammates and coaches as a goodbye present.
4. Not scared to death. Sylvia has studied mortuary science for the past seven years in preparation for her post-basketball career as a mortician. She even worked part-time at funeral homes in Minneapolis and Miami.
5. Sweet Syl. That’s the nickname Sylvia is known by thanks to her famous hugs in the locker room. Her teammates also called her Mama Syl because of her nurturing personality.
