Talking Touchdowns: Can the Rams Bounce Back Against Improving Jaguars?

Los Angeles Rams vs. Seattle Seahawks

What’s up Ramily? Welcome to this week’s edition of Talking Touchdowns. That was such a bummer. I thought we could for sure pull off the W over the Seahawks but not this time. Time to shake it off though because the Rams have another tough match up against the Jaguars and I have a few notes.

Los Angeles Rams vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

The Rams struggled to outshine the Seahawk defense as they had five turnovers, one of which was crucial at the goal line in their opening drive. The Rams offense took a small step backwards against the talented Seahawks last week, where neither Jared Goff or Todd Gurley could get much of anything going. Jared Goff was able to stay consistent with yardage against an extremely successful defense. He had 228 yards but also two interceptions. He will be up against another solid defense in the Jaguars so no time to dwell on this loss. Goff and his offense will look to bounce back against this underrated Jaguars defense, who only give up an average of 18.5 points per game, good for sixth best in the NFL this year.

Jacksonville is 3-2 so far this year and sits atop the struggling AFC South Division. They are coming in with some momentum, as they beat Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers 30-9, picking off Big Ben five times! The Jags star rookie running back Leonard Fournette plowed through the Steelers defense running for 181 yards on 28 carries and had two touchdowns. Fournette is making a strong case for a rookie of the year candidate.

Keys to a Rams victory will be shutting down the Jacksonville running game first and foremost. If the Jags have success running the ball, they will be able to control game flow and limit what they ask their quarterback Blake Bortles to do. Bortles has been the team’s weakest link the past few years and has always been prone to turning the ball over. If the Rams defense can shut down Leonard Fournette, they will force the Jags into throwing the ball and may give them more chances at creating turnovers. Secondly, the Rams offense needs to bounce back and re-establish the run game with Todd Gurley, which will help take some pressure off Jared Goff and open up the play-action passing game. Goff also needs to get back to connecting better with his receivers.

Game Prediction

I am giving the Rams the WIN. This squad seems to learn from their mistakes each week and I think if they can keep ahold of the ball and shut down the run game, they will definitely walk away with the W.
