Talking Touchdowns: The Chiefs Hoping to Charge into First Place

By December 14, 2017 No Comments

Hi, Chiefs Kingdom! Welcome to Talking Touchdowns!

We WON! How good does that feel? We beat the Oakland Raiders 26-15 last week, and it feels like we are getting back into the flow of things. We are still 1st in the division, but, next week, we host the Los Angeles Chargers for a 1st place showdown.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Oakland Raiders

Let’s talk offense. Offensive coordinator, Matt Nagy, continued play calling for the 2nd week in a row and it’s working. Nagy, this role is suits you well. HUNT is BACK! Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt rushed the ball 25 times for 116 yards and a touchdown, his 7th of the season. He is the 2nd rookie in the team’s history to record 1,000 plus rushing yards in his 1st NFL season. WOW! Chiefs running back Charcandrick West rushed the ball 3 times for 25 yards and a touchdown. My hero, rookie kicker Harrison Butker, connected on all four of his field goals, including a 53-yard field goal. It’s like the Chiefs defense heard my cries for a comeback. Or maybe it was the pregame speech and the sideline presence from the one and only Eric Berry. It worked, Berry. The Chiefs defense shut the Raiders out for the first 3 quarters of the game. Chiefs defensive end Chris Jones and linebacker Justin Houston had a combined 8 tackles 2 sacks and 3 quarterback hits. Houston leads the season with 9.5 sacks. Keep it up, boys!! Chiefs’ cornerback Terrance Mitchell defended very well as the replacement for the suspended Marcus Peters. Mitchell had one of the Chiefs’ two interceptions of the game.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Los Angeles Chargers

The 7-6 Kansas City Chiefs host the 7-6 Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday, December 16th at Arrowhead Stadium. The outcome of this game will be for sole possession of 1st place in the AFC West. The Los Angeles Chargers had their fourth straight win last week when they beat the Washington Redskins 30-13. The Chargers offense is ranked 4th in the NFL and their defense is ranked 11th in all of the NFL. Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers is ranked fourth among all quarterbacks. He has thrown 23 touchdowns. Chiefs, you must apply consistent defensive pressure to Rivers with the hope of rattling him next week.

Game Prediction

The Chiefs have their swag back! I am confident that if the Chiefs keep their offense moving in the right direction, towards the end zone, and our defense keeps that fire in them that was reignited last week, we will beat the Chargers. The Chiefs need to protect the ball against the highly rated aggressive Chargers defense. Sorry, Chargers Fangirl, you will be going back to Cali empty handed just like Raiders Fangirl did last week. Go Chiefs!
