I'm Ready 49ers. Put Me In Chip! | Talking Touchdowns

I’m not going to sugar coat this – that game sucked. The San Francisco 49ers are terrible. And there are 10 more games to play.

The 1-5 Niners return home Sunday to host Jameis Winston and the 2-3 Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who are coming off a big win over the Carolina Panthers and a bye week.

On this week’s Talking Touchdowns game preview, I take a look at the matchup, including:

  • The 49ers’ run defense, which has been nothing short of abysmal, allowing an average of 174 yards rushing per game. They allowed the Bills to gain 312 yards on the ground. The linebacker duo of Michael Wilhoite and Nick Bellore are not getting the job done. It remains to be seen if Tampa Bay’s Doug Martin will start at running back, as he has been battling a hamstring injury since week two. Chip Kelly said they are going to try doing more rotating at inside linebacker, but I’m not sure it will help.
  • Colin Kaepernick lives to see another week as the 49ers’ starting quarterback, after going 13 of 27 for 187 yards, a touchdown, and rushing for 66 yards. Kap had a decent day, considering he hasn’t played in almost a year. However, he did continue to struggle with accuracy issues, and he is going to have improve on those if he wants to stay at QB1. On the plus side, he will be up against Tampa Bay’s 20th ranked defense, so Sunday should provide a good opportunity for improvement.
  • Tampa Bay quarterback Jameis Winston is having an up and down season, as are the Buccaneers. He’s thrown eight interceptions to nine touchdowns and has been sacked 12 times. The Tampa Bay offense is ranked 24th in the league. It’s not as bad as the 49ers, who are last in the league, but it’s not good. This could be a good chance for the SF struggling defense to get a couple things going and perhaps actually defend the other team.
  • And, of course, my game prediction.
