Whether it’s a lack of travel or having a family dinner on Zoom, Thanksgiving is going to be different for many of us this year. The same is true for the San Francisco 49ers.

In years past, 49ers’ players, their families, members of the organization and their families have spent Thanksgiving Week feeding the homeless, hosting members of the community at Levi’s Stadium and being on the ground to give back.

Since the players are not able to give back in person due to the coronavirus pandemic, they were able to use their financial resources to purchase food for those in need, partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank (SHFB). Over 700 families were given milk provided by Clover, pumpkin pies from Safeway and Thanksgiving turkey toasts that the finds donated helped to purchase. Volunteers that included 25 49ers staff members distributed the goods at the SHFB.

Due to the pandemic, SHFB is now serving 500,000 people per month, which is double the number of people they were serving before. Had the 49ers not partnered with the organization, SHFB would have had to cancel their annual Thanksgiving drive.

49ers players who donated include Jimmy Garoppolo, Solomon Thomas, Daniel Brunskill, Chris Finke, Alex Barrett and Chase Harrell.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I created Fangirl Sports Network as a place for female sports fans to follow their favorite teams with content and coverage that speaks directly to females. It started with one and then eight and now 32 NFL Fangirls and 15 NBA Fangirls.
