Kaepernick’s Back for the 49ers #BeattheBills (NFL Game 6 Preview)

By October 13, 2016 No Comments

Hello Faithful! Yes, the San Francisco 49ers are 1-4 and yes, they looked terrible against the Arizona Cardinals. But our guys in the red and gold have given fans something to smile about and that something is Colin Kaepernick. Chip Kelly has named Kaepernick the starter for Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills, and away we go.

In this week’s Talking Touchdowns, I take a look at the matchup, focusing on:

  • The 49ers’ QB situation – Poor, sweet, very attractive Blaine Gabbert was 27th in the league in completion percentage, 30th in passing yards per game, and 30th in passer rating. Clearly, a change had to be made. Unfortunately for Kaepernick, the 49ers don’t have any new wide receivers, but at least the fans have something to be excited about.
  • After firing offensive coordinator Greg Roman, the Bills’ offense has come to life under new offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn, who has found a way to build the offense around running back LeSean McCoy. McCoy had 150 yards rushing against the Rams last week. The Niner defense allowed David Johnson to rush for 157 yards and two touchdowns. McCoy has beef with Chip Kelly. You see where I’m going with this? Nowhere good.
  • Overall, the Buffalo offense has outscored opponents 79-37 and has no turnovers the last three weeks. Overall, the 49er defense is ranked 20th in the league and 31st in run defense, which brings me back to the LeSean “Shady” McCoy problem.
  • The 49ers’ offense is ranked 31st in the league. Jeremy Kerley is the 49ers’ leading receiver with 304 yards and two TDs, in five games. Hopefully, Kaepernick helps provide a spark, but as I keep saying, it’s all about the run game. This is Carlos Hyde’s offense and the 49ers will live and die by it. Currently, they’re dying by it. No pressure El Guapo.
  • And, of course, my game prediction!
