MLB All-Star Game

The 2023 MLB season is halfway done, and that means it’s time for the All-Star Game. Baseball’s best and brightest head to Seattle next week for all the festivities.

The Home Run Derby takes place on Monday from T-Mobile Park at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT and will be broadcast on ESPN. The first-round matchups are: (1) Luis Robert Jr. vs. (8) Adley Rutschman; (2) Pete Alonso vs. (7) Julio Rodríguez; (3) Mookie Betts vs. (6) Vladimir Guerrero Jr.; and (4) Adolis García vs. (5) Randy Arozarena. We all know where my loyalties lie.

Tuesday’s game is at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT on FOX.

Victor Wembanyama

The NBA’s No. 1 draft pick has already had a big week, and that is before Victor Wembanyama, or Wemby, takes the court for his San Antonio Spurs debut.

Britney Spears alleges that she tapped Wemby as he was walking to a Las Vegas restaurant at the ARIA Hotel and Casino on Wednesday evening and that a member of the Spurs’ security team struck her in the face, while pushing her hand away. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department investigated the incident and say no charges will be filed, as its investigation found it was Spears’ own hand that struck her face when it was pushed away.

Wemby makes his NBA summer league debut Friday night against the Charlotte Hornets, in a game that has been sold out for some time. Tip-off is at 9 pm ET/6 pm PT and will be on ESPN.

Corbin Carroll

Arizona Diamondbacks’ rookie left-fielder Corbin Carroll left Thursday’s loss to the New York Mets with a right shoulder injury. It is the second time in a week that Carroll has left a game with such an issue. It happened on a swing in the 7th inning.

Carroll is supposed to start for the National League in next week’s All-Star Game but that is now TBD. Carroll is hitting .290 with 18 home runs and has stolen 24 bases, while the Diamondbacks hold a ½ game lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West.

NBA 2K24

Kobe Bryant and Sabrina Ionescu will grace the cover for NBA 2K24, as announced by the video game company. It will be Bryant’s fourth time on the cover and Ionescu’s first time. Ionescu will be the fourth WNBA star on the cover in three years. Candace Parker was on in 2021 and Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird were on in 2022.

USWNT World Cup Co-Captains

With Becky Sauerbrunn unable to compete in the World Cup due to a foot injury, Alex Morgan and Lindsay Horan have been named U.S. women’s national team co-captains for the 2023 World Cup. When both women are on the field, it will be Horan who wears the captain’s armband.

The games begin on July 20 and end August 20, and will take place in New Zealand and Australia.
